Tip of the Week:
The number one killer of teenagers is motor vehicle accidents, accounting for more than 5,000 deaths each year. Friday and Saturday nights and early Saturday and Sunday mornings have the highest number of driving accidents involving teenagers. A 16-year old driver is 42% more likely to be involved in a motor vehicle accident than a teen one year older.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TEEN DRIVERS
Drive sober and always ride with a sober driver.
Always wear your safety belt, even when close to home.
Insist that all passengers also wear their safety belts.
Be familiar with the vehicle you’re driving, and use the safety devices.
Be a defensive driver, be alert, and have a good attitude.
Focus on your driving and avoid distractions .
Limit the number of passengers riding in your car.
Avoid competitive driving.
Follow traffic laws and drive at safe, legal speeds.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PARENTS OF TEEN DRIVERS
Supervise your teen’s driving time.
Let your teen practice driving while they have a permit.
Continue practice driving during the first year of licensed driving.
Put a limit on the number of passengers allowed in the car.
Limit your teen’s driving during periods of increased risk.
Establish a time by which your teen must be home.
Insist that your teen and any passengers wear safety belts.
Set limits on the areas a teen can drive.
Prohibit your teen from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Encourage your teen to use good judgment.
Be a good role model.
Support graduated licensing.

Ascot Circle and Loriella Park Drive, on April 2, 2014, between 9:30PM and 9:45PM, the victim was walking on Loriella Park Drive when a vehicle stopped and an unknown male struck the victim on the head with a hard object. The victim could not see the assailant or the occupants in the vehicle. The assailant boarded the vehicle and left. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. CFS 14-031538
ARMED ROBBERY-LEE’S HILL~COMMERCIAL CENTER
Hampton Inn, 4800 Market Street, on April 8, 2014, between 10:25PM and 10:30PM, the victim was in the parking lot when the suspect showed a firearm and took the victim’s wallet then fled towards the Denny’s Restaurant on Route 1. Suspect is a black male, 50 to 60 years, 6’00, 160 lbs., wearing dark clothing and had a 3 to 4” revolver. Investigation continues. CFS 14-033580
ROBBERY (ATTEMPT)-LEE’S HILL~COMMERCIAL CENTER
Fairfield Inn, 10330 Spotsylvania Avenue, on April 3, 2014, between 12:30AM and 12:35AM, the victim was walking back towards the entrance of the Inn when someone demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspect held a light to the victim’s face and demanded the wallet again. The victim refused and ran into the Inn and asked the clerk to call 9-1-1. A K-9 track led to the area of the nearby restaurant. CFS 14-031556
BREAKING AND ENTERING DAYTIME-WAVERLY VILLAGE
700 block of Barkley Drive, on April 7, 2014, between 2:20PM and 2:25PM, the victim and a 20 year old grandson were home when the victim heard someone attempting to break in through the grandson’s bedroom window, while he was sleeping. The victim yelled at the three suspects and they ran to a waiting truck. A neighbor saw the suspects running towards a truck and was able to read the license plate. The registered owner was contacted and is being interviewed. Nothing was taken and damage was to a window screen is valued at $50.00. Investigation continues. CFS 14-033104

8600 block of Lee Jackson Circle, on April 6, 2014, between 12:01AM and 9:00AM, someone broke into the residence and stole 11 civil war buttons from a display. One of the buttons is valued at $1,000.00 and the other ten are valued at $5,000.00. The victim has a suspect. CFS 14-032735
BREAKING AND ENTERING NIGHTTIME-SALEM RUN
11500 block of Rowan Court, between April 8, 10:45PM and April 9, 2014 10:50PM, a male attempted to break into the residence by banging on the front door. The victim thought it was a family member and opened the door. Standing there was a male pointing a silver handgun. The suspect begin to walk inside and the victim slammed the door closed and activated the deadbolt lock, then called 9-1-1. The suspect is a black male, 18 to 30 years, 5’5”, and 150 to 175 lbs. Wal-Mart, 10001 Southpoint Parkway, on April 5, 2014, between 3:40PM and 4:15PM, a black male, 5’10”, thin, a tattoo on the neck, loaded a with Dyson vacuum cleaner, Bostich Tool sets, and a pair of work boots, totaling $1,120.00, and then exited through the garden area. The suspect loaded the merchandise in a gold color Chevrolet Trailblazer and left. CFS 14-032534

Belk, 3102 Plank Road, on April 2, 2014, between 4:30PM and 5:15PM, three males and a female took clothing and placed it inside of a bag, then went to a counter where they removed the security tags. When the thieves noticed the loss prevention officer, they ran out of the store and were last seen going towards the parking lot. Suspects are three black, skinny males, no further physical description, and a black female, heavy set, shoulder length hair and wearing glasses. The clothing tags were recovered and the total from the tags is $500.00. CFS 14-031471

Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4700 Massaponax Church Road, on April 8, 2014, between 12:45PM, and 12:55PM, bike riders parked their vehicles on the church parking lot, and when they returned they noticed that someone had broken into some automobiles and saw a white male standing by a parked vehicle. The male quickly boarded a purple Hyundai and sped away. Someone in the group noted the license plate information. The deputy checked on the plate and the car had been reported stolen in Georgia. The suspect has been identified and active warrants are outstanding here and in other jurisdictions. CFS 14-033401

Riverbed High School, 12501 Mill Road, on April 5, 2014, at 3:05PM, an unknown person send a check in the amount of $2,850.00 to the reporting party, who sells Pampered Chef merchandise. An order for $500.00 worth of merchandise came with the check and instructions to cash the check, withdraw the $500.00, and return the rest of the money via Western Union. When the culprit noticed the witness, he boarded the vehicle that was parked next to the victim’s car, and was being driven by a white female. The witness was unable to get the plate number. Belk, 3102 Plank Road, on April 6, 2014, between 6:20PM and 7:00PM, a citizen went to use the men’s room, and placed a black Sig Sauer P-938 hand gun and keys on the floor. When the citizen was leaving and picked up the keys but forgot the firearm. When the citizen returned, the weapon was not there. A search was made by mall security and Belk employees, however, the weapon was not found. It is valued at $700.00. CFS 14-032928
